Sculpted by Ice - The Geologic History of Troyer's Hollow

DESCRIPTION:   Troyer’s Hollow and The Doughty Valley have a rich history culturally as well as geologically in this portion of Ohio. The uncharacteristic depth of the Troyer’s Hollow may appear out of place in the gently rolling landscape of central and eastern Holmes county and stories of massive gold deposits are common among local legend.  We will take a lecture tour through some of this rich history to better understand how this icon of a location came to be and how its’ history shapes the land, ecosystem, and our culture. “Sculpted by Ice”  is about how the valley was formed during the last ice age. The program will be presented by Terry Lahm, Ph.D. professor of Geology and Environmental Sciences at Capital University.   Terry is a native of Holmes Co. and is a Senior Associate Provost at Capital University.   His fascinating lecture will be presented on Saturday, June 4 at 9:30 in the Keim Lumber conference room on the second floor.   Following the program, an option will be available to meet Professor Lahm at Troyers Hollow to see firsthand the unique features.   Bring the entire family for a fascinating look into our past and how our county was shaped thousands of years ago.
